The Reading Section of MMCS Library serves as a calm and welcoming study space for learners, aspirants, and researchers from across Patiala. Every day, students preparing for competitive and academic examinations gather here to read, exchange notes, and focus in an atmosphere of quiet concentration. The section is equipped with a rich collection of reference books, newspapers, journals, and general reading materials, catering to diverse disciplines. More than just a study hall, it embodies the library’s mission of creating an inclusive and knowledge-driven environment - one that supports lifelong learning and community growth within the city’s historic cultural setting.
The main reading hall of the MMCS Library is the heart of its daily life. Rows of sturdy wooden tables and chairs accommodate students who gather here to prepare for competitive and academic examinations. The space reflects quiet discipline and shared purpose - a timeless atmosphere where generations have pursued knowledge beneath high ceilings and sunlit windows.
The computer section adds a digital edge to the historic library. Equipped with computers and reference materials, it helps readers access online journals, e-resources, and digital archives. This corner bridges tradition with technology - ensuring that research and learning keep pace with the modern age.
The vintage ceiling fan, slightly tilted yet steadfast, stands as a small but telling symbol of the library’s lived history. The history of angled fans in Punjab is rooted in two traditions: the large, manually-operated punkah (manually-pulled ceiling fan) and the smaller, intricately decorated hand fans known as pankhis. While the British introduced the large punkah, especially for colonial administrators, smaller pankhis have a long-standing cultural significance
